Article & Book Submissions
Submitting your Book for Review
We only accept self published books for review. We accept books that have been published by any self published author, or through a self publishing services provider, in the UK that carry a UK ISBN number. Books not matching these requirements will only be reviewed at the discretion of the editor.
All books are sent out to a member of our review team and are reviewed independently. No one company or author will be given preference in terms of positions of reviews in the magazine. The aim is to provide fair reviews of books from all self publishers to enable readers and bookshops to make informed choices on buying books. The magazine cannot guarantee that all books supplied for review will be reviewed in the magazine or on our website, nor that any review will be favourable.
Reviews may be edited to fit the space available in the magazine, but for no other reason, even if a review is not positive. Reviews will not be made available to the author or publisher prior to publication of The Self Publishing Magazine.
Please send books for review, along with the following information for each book:
- Publisher’s name, contact address and email.
- Month and year in which the book was published.
- Cover price and ISBN.

Submitting an Article
The magazine is aimed at people who are thinking of, have already or who are in the process of self publishing their work. Articles must fit in with the interests of our readers, which are surprisingly broad – from writing and editing advice, to marketing a finished product or getting to grips with the taxation issues that self publishing may bring, for example.
In the first instance, all submissions or article ideas must be provided via email or letter to the Editor. We recommend looking at the sample copy of the magazine available on this website to familiarise yourself with the content before submitting an article idea.
We currently do not pay contributors, but we do make space available at the end of an article for the contributor’s contact details and mention of a book or service.
The magazine has several sections which accept submissions from contributors. These include:
Articles / Features
We are looking for an authoritative voice and good honest advice; we will consider articles on a wide range of topics related to self publishing including: Marketing and promotion, technical aspects of self publishing, dealing with bookshops and trade, commercial considerations, writing tips, ‘How To’ articles, design and layout, business advice, etc.
The article has to be relevant to self publishers and offer good, solid advice rather than merely peronal experience.
All article ideas should be submitted to the Editor via email or letter in the first instance. Article lengths vary, but rarely exceed 2000 words.
Case Studies / Real Life Stories
Every issue of the magazine contains real life stories of those who have already self published. Whether it was a good or bad experience, our readers want to hear your story! Case studies are usually between 500 and 1000 words and should be accompanied by a photo of yourself (300 dpi jpg or tiff file please) and a book jacket image. The text can be accompanied by any other graphical element that may be relevant to the story.
We are looking for well written, informative case studies that cover such topics as: why you opted to self publish, how you did it, the successes or unique features of the process, what you would change, what you would do the same etc.
‘Ask the Expert’ Section
If you have a question on any aspect of self publishing that you want answering, send it to the Editor via post or email marked ‘Ask the Expert’ on the envelope or in the subject line.
